General Questions

1What is holistic dietary counseling?
Holistic dietary counseling (also called holistic nutrition counseling) is an integrative, personcentered approach to nutrition that views food as one pillar within a broader lifestyle system. Rather than prescribing cookiecutter plans, this model aims to help clients unlock the root causes of symptoms—taking into account not only what they eat, but why they eat, as well as factors like stress, sleep, movement, and emotional wellbeing.
2How do I start the process of working with you?
First, you’ll start with a free 15-minute discovery call. This will allow us to discuss your personal health and nutrition challenges. I want to hear your story! We will discuss your goals, coverage options, and decide if we are a good fit to work together. Once it all lines up, we’ll go ahead and set up your initial consultation.
3What are your credentials?
I have a Master of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition. I am also a board-Certified Nutrition Specialist® (CNS), licensed dietician nutritionist (LDN), as well as having specialized training in nutritional genomics from the American Nutrition Association (ANA).
4What is a Certified Nutrition Specialist®?
The Certified Nutrition Specialist® (CNS®) is the highest-level certification for personalized nutrition professionals. CNS practitioners use evidence-based nutrition therapy to help people achieve better health. Earning this credential requires a Master’s degree in nutrition, 1,000 hours of supervised practice, and passing a comprehensive board exam. To stay certified, they must complete at least 75 hours of continuing education every five years.
5What types of conditions have you worked with?
Not only have I helped clients to lose weight, heal their relationship with food, or achieve overall wellness, I have also helped clients manage or prevent a chronic condition or illness. Some examples include those with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome, GERD, IBS, IBD, PCOS, diarrhea, constipation, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and other autoimmune conditions, to name a few.
6How are the sessions conducted?
All sessions are currently conducted virtually using a private, HIPAA-secure telehealth platform, so you can feel confident and comfortable from wherever you are. No need to drive anywhere!
7What ages do you work with?
I work with clients ages 18 and up.

Sessions & Packages

1What is an initial consultation?
We’ll start with a very thorough and in-depth consultation that will go over your habits, likes and dislikes, health history, family history, lab work, and much more. This in-depth consultation will help me determine where your body is and the steps we need to take to reach your goals and become the person you deserve to be.
2How do I prepare for my initial consultation?
Once your initial consultation is scheduled, don’t forget to add it to your calendar and check your email for next steps. You might receive messages from Practice Better—my secure, HIPAA-compliant partner for telehealth. These emails could include forms to complete or details on how to access the client portal. To get the most out of your session, be sure to upload any recent lab results you'd like me to review ahead of time. I will be looking at these from a nutrition lens to better assist me in developing the most comprehensive nutrition plan just for you!
3Should I plan to do follow-up sessions?
Yes, follow-up sessions play a key role in your long-term success! Building lasting nutrition and lifestyle habits takes time, support, and guidance. In these sessions, we’ll check in on your progress, celebrate your wins, and address any challenges that come up. We'll continue to refine your goals and adjust your plan as needed, using personalized education and strategies to help you stay focused and motivated every step of the way.
4Do I need to book a package?
No, you do not need to book a package although if you are planning on making follow-up appointments (which I strongly suggest!) packages are a great way to get a discount and payment plans are available. Targeted packages that focus on gut health, overall wellness, and your own genetic blueprint are available as well. Be sure to check these out on my Services tab. Of course, I also offer individual appointments if that better fits your needs.

Supplements and Testing

1Do you offer laboratory testing?
Yes, nutrition-focused laboratory testing is available and can be added to any service for an additional upfront fee, unless it is already included in a package. Availability can range depending on your state of residence. Many conventional labs look “normal”, but you still may be experiencing symptoms are just not feeling your best. By using functional lab ranges and more targeted testing, we can get a clearer picture of how your body is processing nutrients, hormones, and other key factors. This helps guide your wellness plan more effectively and saves time and money by reducing guesswork. Test, don’t guess!
2Do you offer genetic testing?
Yes, genetic testing is available and can be added to any service for an additional upfront fee. Availability can range depending on your state of residence. I hold specialized training in nutritional genomics and can help you understand how your genes influence your body’s response to different foods and nutrients. Using this knowledge, a more personalized plan can be developed for the unique person that you are. This can lead to a possible reduced risk of diet-related diseases, improved nutrient absorption, and more effective weight management.
3What about supplements?
Ideally, we would be able to get all the nutrients we need from our food alone but let’s face it, in today’s world, due to soil degradation, it is challenging to get everything we need through diet alone. Even if you are eating a healthy diet, you may still need additional supplements to help support any chronic conditions you might have and to help you feel your best, so most of the time supplements will be a part of your wellness plan.
4How will I order my supplements & how much will they cost?
Every plan developed is unique and personalized so an exact cost is not provided. Professional-grade supplements are shipped directly to your home through my online dispensary supported by Fullscript. You can order here: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/missyknutrition or click on the link below. All of my clients will receive a discount on any supplements ordered, providing a lower cost than what you will likely find on your own for the same quality supplements.

Billing & Payments

1Do you accept insurance?
Currently, I do not accept insurance. This allows no restrictions on the type, duration, or frequency of treatment that is covered so that I can provide the best care possible. I do offer discount packages and payment plans to meet everyone’s needs. If you need special assistance, contact me and we will work to come up with a solution.
2How does billing work?
Payment is required at the time of booking. You will receive an invoice from my secure HIPAA compliant platform, Practice Better, upon booking. You will be able to select a payment plan at this time, if desired.
3What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit cards including Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank debits and transfers, and HSA/FSA cards are accepted forms of payment. Please contact your HSA/FSA provider to determine if your plan includes coverage for nutrition consultations and follow- ups.
